Leadership

Martial arts training offers you an opportunity to explore ways of acting
with increasing balance, grace, and effectiveness in everyday situations of conflict or stress. Guided by principles of movement, harmony, and connectedness from martial arts, you can sharpen practical skills for communicating, dealing with conflict, and cultivating a grounded way of being present, even in chaotic situations.

Through a combination of facilitated dialogue and safe, non-strenuous solo and paired exercises based on martial arts movements, students physically experience moving through conflict with others in ways that neither resist it, escalate it, nor give in to it.

In order to put your new martial arts knowledge to work in your daily life you must think like a leader. Use ways of speaking, listening, and relating to others that mirror the physical martial arts movements.

In class you can identify and experiment with the kinds of real world situations you find especially difficult. Through re-enacting these situations using physical martial arts movements, and their analogous communication tools, students may open doors to new ways of reducing stress and enhancing leadership effectiveness.

Because of the focus on movement in martial arts class, you practice the essential components of physical learning for enhanced leadership effectiveness. As a whole-hearted participant in your martial arts classes you will increase your ability to:

• Create for yourself a more powerful identity as a leader

• Notice your physical symptoms of becoming off balance in situations
• Find your natural center, and practice regaining it when you are drawn “off center”

• Listen to the needs of others while not losing touch with your own • Shift difficult conversations toward productive inquiry and dialogue

If you are a martial artists who wants to strengthen your capacity for calm and centered leadership in ways that also help others do so. You can also build leadership from the techniques of breathing, centering, and grounding which are drawn form the energy arts such as power breathing.
