Making Better Choices

Tales & Traditions

Chang Hee was training to fight in his tournament that was coming up. He was working hard everyday. He also had to keep up with his academic studies. It was taking its toll on him day in and day out.

He tried to figure out a way to cut his training short so he wouldn’t have to train so hard and he wouldn’t have to study as hard either. He wanted more time for himself and to have more fun with his friends.

“It will be okay. I can do this. I will get just enough done so I will know how to do the moves and the blocks and learn my forms and I will do just fine in the tournament. I always have before, I don’t need to keep on practicing so much,” he thought to himself as he made his strategic plan.

The weeks went by and he took his academic tests, which didn’t turn out as well as he might have hoped, but he did okay.

“I have done better on tests before. I don’t understand it,” he told his friends as they went along to the lake to have some fun after school as they seem to more often.

“Come on! Swimming will get you in shape for your tournament,” a friend of Chang Hee’s told him.

Chang Hee followed making a bad choice for himself. When it came time for the tournament, Chang Hee knew the moves, but he wasn’t quite smooth and quick enough to obtain a high score to earn a top-ranking honor. Chang Hee was very disappointed. He hadn’t lost a tournament like that before.

“I must rethink my strategy and make better choices of using my time more wisely for the next tournament. I used to be better. It seems I must keep outdoing myself to stay on top!” Chang Hee learned a valuable life lesson.
