Positive Self Image
What does it mean to have a positive self image? Many people have difficulty distinguishing between being confident and being arrogant. While they may appear similar at times, their respective sources could not be more opposite.
People with a negative self image typically will lack true confidence. This manifests itself either in extreme introversion or overcompensation through arrogance. Everyone knows people like this, and it is no secret that they simply feel unhappy and dissatisfied with their lives.
A person with a positive self image is able to assert themselves with a sense of quiet confidence. They feel no need to use other people as stepping stones in order to elevate themselves. Looking at yourself positively is a necessity for those wishing to have a true sense of happiness in their life.
A common misconception is that people with positive self images like everything about themselves. This is simply not true. Everyone has imperfections; it is the way they are dealt with that develops the positive self image. Being willing to take shortcomings in stride and continue to work towards personal improvement is typically a mark of a positive self image.
The overall impression that a person with a positive self image portrays is collected. There is a sense that when you have come to grips with yourself as a person, you are more apt to avoid being overwhelmed by the world around you. You are in a position to strive towards your own definition of success. For each person, success is different, but people with a positive self image are able to discern what that means to them and take the necessary steps towards achieving it.
