1st Red belt (1st KUP)

You are all ready to become a Black Belt. This is a very important stage in your martial arts training. You are expected to have developed close to perfect techniques as well as mental discipline. Through your discipline, hard work, patience and determination, you desire to become part of the Black Belt family.

Increase your knowledge and understanding of your basic techniques, for example: stance, punching, blocking, and kicking with repetition! Know how wide and long your distance should be in reference to the power that you should obtain while kicking, punching, blocking, etc.... Develop full knowledge of the forms and exercise so that you can utilize them in your

free-sparring and one-steps, so they will all be related! Self-defense and free-sparring techniques

should be second-nature and this will only happen through repetition!

The repetitive training that disciplines the body will be complemented by the mental discipline of the true martial artist's spirit. This mental discipline will effect every pact of the black belt's life. Honesty, patience, caring, and personal sacrifice will be the goals that this part of your black bet training will achieve.

When you receive your black belt, there is also a great deal of responsibility that accompanies the rank. You represent Master Lee wherever you go and whatever you do. Because of your physical discipline, you must never use your skills to take advantage of and individual. A true Martial artist is humble bragging of one's ability is either an attempt to provoke a fight or to belittle an

opponent both of which are not in the true spirit of the Martial Arts. Success is achieved through hard work and personal sacrifice not through intimidation and coercion.

The black belt is the symbol of a new beginning. You are the gardener, your training up to this point can be compared to the soil preparation, your black belt is the seed-newly planted. Your growth in the martial is just beginning.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS:

Control hesitation and nervousness in fighting situations. You will never win if you are afraid, or let hesitation and nervousness control your body and mind. You must handle Free Sparring with confidence and self-control. Never let the situation get out of control. Anticipate the opponent's movements and attacks, and be ready to counter attack it with your own techniques.

Always keep your mind and body relaxed with flexibility. Your actions begin with relaxation for speed and precision, end with maximum power for strength and impact.

Flexibility plays an important role of Free Sparring. Flexibility develops quickness, agility, and speed, which are very important in Free Sparring. A student with greater flexibility has a distinctive advantage over his/her opponent.

Ki Hap (yell) develops inner power and increases concentration during attacking and defending. Combine the inner power (Ki Hap) with physical strength to properly execute contact against the opponent. Ki Hap must be used at the moment of impact of the attack.

**Remember always use your confidence during Free Sparring**
