Drive
One of the most powerful tools that you have at your disposal is called drive. Your drive is the motivation that pushes you to take action and bring about results. When you are propelled by a strong drive nothing can stop you from achieving your goals. The secret to building a drive that can cause you to become an unstoppable force is incentive.
An incentive is the specific goal or payoff that has a tendency to bring about determination and action in you. Simply stated, your incentive is what you’re going to receive from the actions you take. Of course, training in the martial arts provides many incentives that can fuel your drive to greater levels of achievement.
If your incentive for training in the martial arts is to lose weight or become physically fit, then you can easily find the fuel to strengthen your drive. Participating in aerobic-orientated training for thirty to forty minutes three to four times a week should bring you the desired goal in no time. You will find a stronger drive with every pound or clothing size that comes off your body.
Maybe your incentive is to be able to more confidently walk through the intimidating streets that you have to pass on a daily basis. Learning basic self-defense techniques against attacks like holds, punches and weapons will produce greater confidence. Going through sparring with different partners in class will also help you become more confident and increase your drive as your knowledge and experience grow.
The martial arts can also provide the incentive for developing better character. Tough experiences like pushing your limits to achieve new levels in breaking elevate your endurance. Working with partners who are at a higher or lower level can test your patience. Of course, belt testing can be a real challenge designed to test your metal even beyond the curriculum basics. As you change for the better and develop greater character, your drive is also further enhanced.
Basically, if you want to have a powerful drive, you have to possess and be driven by an intensely desired incentive. The incentive will be the fuel that drives you to break down, climb over and go around any obstacle that tries to stop you. Martial arts are designed to build indomitable spirit which by another name might be referred to as drive. With such a spirit your true desires will eventually be in your possession, so remain driven.
